Founded the monastic city of Glendalough in the Wicklow mountains and, folklore insists, stood so long in prayer with one hand outstretched through a window that a blackbird nested in it — and he held still until the chicks had fledged. Seamus Heaney wrote a poem about exactly that patience, and about whether Kevin was praying or simply forgotten by his own body.
