Aidan of Lindisfarne — St Aidan of Lindisfarne

Sent from Iona in 635 at the request of King Oswald, he founded the monastery on Lindisfarne and walked the roads of Northumbria on foot rather than ride, so that he could stop and speak to anyone he met. Bede, who disagreed with him about Easter, could not help admiring him.
