Kingscourt
fort of the king; the English name keeps the same meaning 'in an English dress', as Joyce puts it, and the town was historically known as Dunaree
A Cavan town near the Meath border, founded near the old village of Cabra by Mervyn Pratt in the late 18th century and finished by his brother. Kingspan, started here in 1965 as Kingscourt Construction Group, still has its headquarters in the town. Its Catholic church has windows by Evie Hone, and in 2008 it hosted the world racquetball championships at the largest handball and racquetball complex in Ireland.
