Droim is a back, and by extension a ridge — the long low ridges of glacial drumlin country in particular, which is why the Drum- names cluster so thickly across Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim and Down. The geological term drumlin is the same Irish word, from droimnín, a little ridge.
