Máirtín
from Latin Martinus, from Mars, the Roman god of war
After St Martin of Tours, said to have been a relative of St Patrick. The Normans brought this form in, but Woulfe says the older Mártan had been in use since early Christian times. Two great Irish-language writers of the 20th century, Máirtín Ó Cadhain and Máirtín Ó Direáin, bore it.
- Máirtín Ó Cadhain (1906–1970) — Irish writer
- Máirtín Ó Direáin (1910–1988) — Irish poet
- Máirtín O'Connor (born 1955) — Irish musician
- Máirtín Ó Muilleoir (born 1959) — Irish politician
