Ros Comáin · Connacht
Rathcroghan, near Tulsk, was the seat of the kings of Connacht, the home of Queen Medb and the starting point of the Táin Bó Cúailnge. When Connacht was conquered and divided, the eastern districts King John kept as "the King's Cantreds" became County Roscommon, fixed in 1585 under the Composition of Connacht with the River Suck as its south-western edge.
